I cannot recommend this book enough. Shaun Tan is like a magician of silent comics. He can do wonders without words. In fact, I think his silent graphic novels are better than the ones with text, even though they are still awesome. At first, when opening The Arrival, one wonders what might be going on. The illustration is wonderful but not easy to comprehend at the first glance. Nevertheless, after a while, one is drawn into the strange new world. It is a story about immigration, about being different and about not understanding the new culture, but most of all, it is a story about hope. I loved how deep it goes.
