Je až mrazivé, jak Kafka vystihl podstatu tohoto díla - ze dne na den se i z toho nejmilovanějšího člověka může stát někdo úplně cizí. Někdo, kdo je nám lhostejný a na koho se ani podívat nemůžeme. A napsal to takovou formou, že to celé působí jako absurdní vtipná povídka, ale ve skutečnosti je to další nestárnoucí nadčasové dílo.
