Throne of Glass series (with this book being the first in the series) is an interesting, light read. Being all the rage on the Booktube, I picked it up. I was not disappointed, Sarah J. Maas knows how to write - she knows how to advance the plot and create the sense of tension and threat - I read the whole book in a single day. However, if you are expecting an adult, realistic fantasy, like that of George R. R. Martin, albeit somewhat lighter, this is sadly, and definitely, not it. The main character is a very young, prototypical badass character, and the attempts to balance this out with some negative traits are not entirely working out to flesh out a credible person. The main character is therefore not entirely realistic, even if judged by YA standards (which this book was not supposed to be), but the world itself and the other characters around her are the main strength of this series. I read it to learn more about them.
