As an aspiring writer myself, I owe this book a lot. The first part of this memoir is filled with King's musings, anecdotes, as well as his personal life. The second part is focused on writing itself, ranging from using the right vocabulary to tricks to storytelling. King's life is very interesting, as well due to his darker period as a heroin addict and an alcoholic. This shows some of his novels, as well. For example, his novel The Shining, is very intimate in the sense that is shows his battle with alcoholism.
Overall it's a great read.

Kniha O psaní je takovou zvláštní kombinací autobiografie a příručky pro začínající spisovatele. Já jako fanoušek Stephena Kinga a jako člověk, který vždycky chtěl psát, jsem byla z knihy moc nadšená a patří k mým nejzamilovanějším. Kingův život je zajímavý, stejně jako jeho spisovatelské začátky, a jeho rady a tipy jsou jasné a názorně vysvětlené. Vše je navíc podáno velmi čtivou formou a v nejlepším Kingově stylu. Kniha z nikoho samozřejmě spisovatele neudělá, ale pokud si čtenář vezme alespoň něco k srdci, může tím svůj styl psaní vylepšit.

I can’t tell you how many people I’ve talked to over my lifetime who wanted to write a book. Most didn’t know what they wanted to write about, but some of them wanted to write their autobiography because their life had been so thrilling. I think my life has been reasonably boring, and it usually turns out that my life has been ten times more exciting than theirs. When situations like this happen to me, it is usually mildly amusing, but it can quickly turn to sneering when the person reveals to me that they don’t have time to read or don’t really like to read.
